Supporting teams and individuals to lead an international strategy

University of Dundee

The University of Dundee depends on strong academic and professional services leadership to attract and enrol students from over 140 countries around the world.

Its Academic Regional Leads and senior staff in the Future Students directorate also play an instrumental role in work to increase the University’s fee income, reach and reputation internationally.

Over a nine-month period, we provided a package of individual coaching and team development sessions for 12 of the University’s senior staff who lead and shape this work.

The objectives were tailored to the needs of the people involved:

  • Enabling individuals to reflect on and develop their own leadership style, including how they influence and bring people together around shared goals across the University.

  • Supporting them as they manage the pressures of demanding roles and balance them alongside other commitments.

  • Helping to crystallise their professional development and career goals, so they can capitalise on their experience and learning.

  • Reinforcing a strong and supportive team dynamic through complementary group sessions.

It’s been enormously helpful for us, and I would highly recommend it for other teams managing high volumes of work and responding to significant change. We particularly valued the structured approach, which enabled us to get the most from the time, as well as the flexibility, warmth and positivity that came with it.
— Shane Collins, Director of Future Students

The team have really valued their coaching sessions and found them enormously helpful in providing a forum and a toolkit with which to identify and consider ways of addressing both internal and external factors that influence their roles and the way they engage with other teams.
— Kim Dale, Assistant Vice-Principal (international)
